How , when & why do they get acne?

Acne is common to everyone, time in a lifetime may be young age, adult or elderly age.

Acne, medically known as Acne Vulgaris, is a skin disease that involves the oil glands at the base of hair follicles. It often occurs in the work of puberty when the sebaceous (oil) glands come to life - the glands are stimulated by male hormones produced by the adrenal glands of both males & females.

Acne is not dicy, but can leave skin scars. Human skin has pores (tiny holes) which connect to grease glands located under the skin. The glands are connected to the pores by follicles - tiny canals. These glands produce Sebum, an oily liquid. The sebum carries dead skin cells through the follicles to the surface of the skin. A tiny hair grows through the follicle out of the skin. pimples grow when these follicles get blocked, leading to an accumulation of oil under the skin.

The word acne comes from the word acme meaning "the highest point", which comes from the Greek akme meaning "point" or "spot" - it was originally mispelt, with an 'n' than an 'm' in 1835.

In humans, pimples tend to appear on the face, back, chest, shoulders & neck.
Fundamentally put - skin cells, sebum & hair can clump together in to a plug, this plug gets infected with bacteria, leading to a swelling. A pimple starts to generate when the plug begins to break down.

There is various types of pimples

Whiteheads - stay under the skin & are tiny.

Blackheads - clearly visible, they are black & appear on the surface of the skin. Keep in mind that a blackhead is not caused by dirt. Scrubbing your face vigorously when you see blackheads won't help.

Papules - visible on the surface of the skin. They are tiny bumps, usually pink.

Pustules - clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are red at their base & have pus at the top.

Nobules - clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are immense, solid pimples. They are painful & are embedded deep in the skin.

Cysts - clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are painful, & are filled with pus.cysts can fundamentally cause scars.

v  Shave carefully. In case you shave, you can try both electric & safety razors to see which works best. With safety razors, use a sharp blade. Also, it helps to soften your beard with soap & water before putting on shaving cream. Shave lightly & only when you require to.
